Lists vs rewards! This time of year for many folk Lists vs rewards! This time of year for many folks, becomes a blur of kids' activities, social events, work deadlines, even more pressure for family social activities…fun? Or just stress? For me personally, I really look forward to getting together with friends and family; however I do need to find a balance for some 'me time' to decompress. As every interior designer will be well aware of, this time of year is one of the busiest with the hardest pushes, with our clients demanding even more of us. Every one of those clients wanting their own homes and environments to be perfect for their own upcoming holiday. This year has been particularly challenging with supplier delays and unpredictable behaviour by many companies, due to Brexit and COVID. Now is the time to look realistically and honestly at actual projects; realise what is going to be achievable and communicate that very clearly to your clients early on. It is important that you manage your own stress levels moving into this holiday, make 'to do' lists of what is going to be possible, and most importantly add a wee reward for yourself at the end. I tend to close my office for two weeks over the Christmas break, and on the last day of work I treat myself with a lovely manicure and massage. I have a good friend who books herself and her wif I have a good friend who books herself and her wife a hot holiday every January! It’s their way of getting over the Xmas blur and prepping for the new year. Mexico, Canary Islands, Thailand, South Africa… anywhere hot, to warm their bones for the rest of the winter. Isn’t that a great idea? Traditionally I like to take the summer off to enjoy the summer here at home. But this winter sun escape really appeals to me…Hmmm….
