The Hottest Irish Designers

In the spirit of the recent St Patrick’s Day, we thought we would take a look at some of the Emerald Isle’s top Interior Designers and their work on iconic buildings.

DAVID COLLINS

We wouldn’t be doing Ireland any justice without mentioning first and foremost Irish Designer David Collins.  The famous Dublin-born Architect died prematurely of skin cancer in 2013.  David was an acclaimed Designer in the UK but bizarrely only achieved fame in his home country when Madonna attended his funeral in Monkstown.

Vogue Magazine described Irish Designer, David as “London’s Great Interior Designer”.  It was also noted that he had created “some of the world’s most glamorous restaurants, bars and boutiques”.  David only undertook several commissions in Ireland.  One of the most notable being the re-designing of Kilkenny’s Langton’s Hotel – the famous hurlers watering hole!

Here in London, David was also responsible for refurbishing some of the most famous bars in town – Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley.  The Berkeley even went as far as to name one of their restaurants after David – “The Collins Room”.  Furthermore, the restaurant was then exquisitely redesigned in 2016 by Collins’s protégé Robert Angell.  David Collins’ iconic and noteworthy signature style was known for being refined and luxurious, and this can be seen in the pictures of his work on the stunning  Limewood Hotel, New Forest. He is most certainly missed!
