We all know that land is left fallow to allow the We all know that land is left fallow to allow the soil to rest and regenerate so that it offers better nutrients for future crops.

The same could be said for ourselves and our creativity – we all need to take a rest sometimes, for our mental and physical well-being.

As Interior Designers we have a tendency to overcommit, with a desire to get everything done for everyone. But the continued drive and sometimes a failure to prioritise can leave us feeling exhausted, disappointed, or worse, burnt-out.

❓Who of you can put your hand up to Designers Block??😖

Yes, it happens to the best of us and at the most inconvenient times as well.

I’m working on the most lovely house with the most patient of clients and I’ve been really struggling to figure out the design direction.

This happened to me, some year’s ago on another project where the previous architect owner had made some bizarre changes and there was no harmony in the house... as well as 4 different skirting profiles in 1 room 🤯🤬

Anyway, I digress. For me I find that designers block happens when I’m juggling too many project management / admin tasks - the organiser in me takes over and the creative in me doesn’t get a look in.

That when I know I need to take a break!

To maintain our creativity, our energy and our passion for our creativity, we need to give ourselves timeout – without guilt. Restorative time; time for us.

So – take a break – your productivity, creativity, energy and wellbeing will be more beautiful and bountiful as a result.

Now, where’s those Sunday scones & that cup of fruity tea…? 😘

Changing perspective.... Can you believe it is ha Changing perspective....

Can you believe it is has been almost a year since we experienced our first taste of lockdown, and the reality of the pandemic really hit home? And what a year it has been...

It has changed the way many of us work, school and live - and relate to each other. Some changes are temporary (hurray! I can hear all my friends who have been long suffering homeschooling parents, cheer!) but others may be more long lasting and impactful.

I think we have all learned lessons along the way - changed the way we look at things - changed our perspective - about how we work, about the ever-important work-life balance, about what we value (my garden), and about how we want our lives to be in the years to come.

💜What changes have you adopted in your work practices that you are thinking of keeping?

What have you learned from this chapter in our lives? Please share your experiences below. 👇

The world we live in is increasingly fast-paced an The world we live in is increasingly fast-paced and as many fellow designers will identify with, I've often been under time pressure, feeling forced to rush aspects of the project or pushed to delivering in unrealistic timescales.

This can be a false economy of time - hastily made decisions or rushed executions of work often result in things ultimately taking longer. Reviewing decisions - again - or having to redo elements that haven't worked or simply a mistake has been made. Nothing irredeemable - but just takes more time to resolve.

By taking a little more time from the outset and being consistent and measured, even if its slower, can give better results. Focusing on getting it right in the first place.

Sometimes this means having a hard conversation with the client and slowing down their expectations of timescales.

Try to stick to your guns and your timescales. Take the time to get it right. As my nana used to say 'measure twice, cut once.' 😃

💜Double tap if you agree!💜.
