If only happiness were a readymade plug-in - think If only happiness were a readymade plug-in - think we would all have reached for it at some point during this winter's lockdown.

But it is true: we create our own happiness.

We have one life - and it ain't no dress rehearsal...so why be unhappy?

That isn't to say we have to constantly be grinning and pretending everything it OK, when it isn't. We all have bad days...and it's OK to not be OK. But we would all hope that for most of our life we are happy.

With spring just around the corner, as well as spring cleaning our homes, we should metaphorically be having a spring clean of our lives too. Taking a look at what makes us happy and cherishing that and building on it; and taking a look at what is making us unhappy and doing something about it.

And that includes in our design businesses too. We work because we feel passionately about design, and about creating beautiful interiors for people to live and enjoy; we create pockets of happiness.

We enjoy our work but there are often factors that can sour our experiences, make work unhappy...so perhaps now is the time to address them.

Ditch what makes you sad: possibly no longer offer a service you genuinely dislike, end a contract with an awkward supplier, or politely divorce yourself from a difficult or demanding client.

Do what makes you happy, because life really is too short to be miserable!

We are bombarded by images of 'beauty' on social m We are bombarded by images of 'beauty' on social media - be it 'beautiful people' or 'beautiful rooms' - and often there can be a pressure to bend to the perceived societal norm. And it is that word 'perceived' which is key.

The perception of beauty varies from person to person, which is one aspect that makes our roles as interior designs so exciting and challenging.

No two clients are the same and it is rare to design an identical room for two different clients. And neither client would be wrong - it is their perception of beauty and so is right for them.

There is an assumption that beauty and perfection are one and the same and that is simply not the case. Imperfections bring their own beauty.

Looking at and understanding things from a different perspective is so important, and enlightening. And in our fast-paced, tech-driven, design-heavy world, take time to pause and appreciate the beauty of the smallest details that can define unique pieces and designs, and recognise the value of craftsmanship.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - it's a very personal thing.

😍For me, it’s abstract artwork! 😍I love the clever results from use of lots of colour and I marvel at techniques that I can’t fathom.

I went to the Royal Academy’s Abstract Impressionism exhibit a few years ago and was surrounded by Pollock’s and Rothko’s and many others - just absolute heaven. To this day, it’s a beautiful solid and favourite memory.

💜👇I'd love to know what you find beautiful? Share yours below 👇💜
